Online home of Henry Thomas, paleontologist and overall natural history geek

About me

Hi! My name is Henry Thomas (he/him or they/them pronouns). I'm a Master's student studying vertebrate paleontology at Idaho State University. I've been interested in prehistoric life ever since I was a small child, and ever since I really got seriously invested in the field in high school, I've been working to carry this forward into an academic career. I got my Bachelor's degree in Integrative Biology at the University of California, Berkeley, with an emphasis in evolution and ecology. I'm interested in a wide variety of paleontological and biological topics, and I'm particularly fascinated by how lineages of tetrapods evolve morphologies, behaviors, and ecologies in response to differing environmental pressures. My specific research interests include pterosaur evolution, evolution and paleobiology of therapsids, and the Late Paleozoic Icehouse. When I'm not studying or doing research, I'm often working on various creative projects. This website is a hub for my work, from hard research to artistic outlets.

Current institution Alma mater

Feel free to explore this website at your leisure, or check out a few of the things that I've been working on:

Those With Pycnofibres

Those With Pycnofibres is where I write articles about natural history-related topics, ranging from pterosaur phylogeny to speculative evolution to the Late Paleozoic Icehouse. The subject matter varies based on what I have to say, frankly.

Specposium

The Specposium is an informal virtual conference focused on speculative evolution that I co-organize. It is hosted via Discord, and contains a mixture of showcases of people's projects, presentations on biological and geological fundamentals that could be applied to speculative projects, and commentary on the genre. Visit the Specposium website for more information.

On Beyond Holocene

On Beyond Holocene is a speculative evolution project that maps one possible outline of the next 600 million years of life on earth. Taking inspiration from keystone projects After Man and The Future is Wild, this project aims to strike a balance of creativity and plausibility.

Music

I record and produce music under the moniker Ara tricolor. If you like spacey psychedelic music or Latin-infused rock, check it out:
