Euroborean Fungus Steppe 550 million years hence
The flatter areas of the recently-fragmented Euroboreas are more moist than those of Zephyr. At this point in Earth's future, though, the relatively high temperatures and low carbon dioxide levels hinder plant growth. Instead, this warm, wet environment promotes the growth of fungal steppe - large, open lands covered by low-growing fungi. A blend of heterotrophs, lichenous symbionts, and truly photosynthetic fungi forms the ground cover. Occasionally true shrubs grow out of the flat fungal carpet.
