Zephyrean Badlands 595 million years hence
The expansion of the sun has greatly increased the earth's surface temperature. As this occurred, carbon dioxide levels have decreased, which has taken a toll on plants and other photosynthesizing organisms. The only land biomes that remain in the Matean period, 595 million years in the future, are deserts and fungal steppe. Much of Zephyr is covered by a bare, sandy desert - one of the most inhospitable environments to appear in hundreds of millions of years. Few plants or fungi can grow here, and those that do are small, sparse, and adapted to the heat.
