アフターマン展~未来生物図鑑 (2021-2023)

アフターマン展~未来生物図鑑 ("After Man Exhibition ~ Field Guide to Future Creatures"), or 人類絶滅後の生物図鑑 (rough translation: "Field Guide to Life After Human Extinction") was an exhibit that was shown at a few museums in Japan in the 2020's. It is the most recent of the After Man exhibits. It was produced by Pizza Works Inc., with help from Gakken.1

The exhibit featured all new models and animatronics of the future creatures, multilayered "shadow box" displays, a walk-through "aquarium" (really a tunnel surrounded by screens) featuring an animated Vortex, and a fog screen animation of the Night Stalker.2 Wall panels showed the maps of the future world, evolutionary diagrams, profiles for each of the creatures, and videos featuring Dougal Dixon in a safari hat. Like the previous exhibit, it was arranged by the seven biomes outlined in the book. Animals represented by animatronics or models included, in this order:

Between the Raboon and the Night Stalker displays, there was artwork of a completely new animal: the Macaquetie (right), a gorilla-like descendant of the Japanese macaque, designed by Dixon specifically for this exhibit. Also on display were several of Dougal Dixon's original illustrations. At the end of the exhibit was a place where guests could draw their own future creatures in chalk or on paper.3

From November 1 to December 26, 2021, a contest was held where people could design their own future creatures. Dougal Dixon selected the winner on January 5, 2022.1 Another contest happened when the exhibit debuted in Shizuoka.2
